A man is behind bars, accused of killing a Bell County woman while driving under the influence.
Police say 40 year old Lannie Sizemore of Manchester hit and killed 35 year old Ellen Fletcher of Pineville on US 421 in Clay County.
State police are still investigating the crash.
Officers were on the scene trying to reconstruct the accident that left traffic backed up for hours just north of Manchester.
As Lannie Sizemore waits for his fate in the Clay County Detention Center ... Police continue to search the scene for clues to figure out exactly what happened.
"We are going to use an instrument which will help diagram the scene. This will measure to help determine a speed," said Kentucky State Police Trooper Greg Hill.
Police say Sizemore was driving his SUV on US 421 just outside of Manchester when he crossed the center line and hit another car.
The driver of the other vehicle, 35-year-old Ellen Fletcher, was thrown from her vehicle and later died at Manchester Memorial Hospital.
Fletcher was not wearing a seat belt.
"It's a tragedy especially during the holiday season or anytime for that matter," said Clay County Sheriff Kevin Johnson.
Johnson says folks should always wear their seat belts and be extra cautious this time of the year.
"Wear your seat belt...take extra time to get to your destination... drive slow and always be safe," said Johnson.
We should mention both drivers did have passengers.
They were treated and released from the hospital sunday night.

I don't know this man but if he was taking medicine that was given to him by his doctor and it doped him up than he still should not have been driving especially with his own family with him.He was high and didn't worry about his own family in the car so why would anybody think that he would worry about an innocent person out there. The blood test will tell and if they show positive for both adults then both adults should be put in jail and never get out.Whether she was driving or he was they are both guilty. It's time the people takes responsibility for there actions. These children didn't deserve to have there mother taken from them.Do you think this guys family would want to see him the way we(her family) had to see her after this wreck.I am for FADD(Families Against Dope/Drunk Drivers)We Love and Miss you Dinky.
the women should have been wearing her seatbeat. IT IS THE LAW. she might have had a fighting chance.
if the woman was drivein i think she should have told the cops that i would not take the blame for some woman that is a doppey
