A woman loses control of her car and crashes into a house, sending her passenger to a Lexington hospital.

It happened on highway 30 in rural Breathitt County.

Officials say Rose Marie Turner was coming around a curve near the Shoulderblade community and lost control of the car, hitting a utility pole, and then striking a home.

This was not the wakeup call tera potter was expecting.

Tera potter was sleeping when she says she heard a loud noise and her whole house shook.

“We got up and looked out the bedroom window and noticed that the car was sitting against out our porch,” Potter says.

Police say the car came around this curve heading towards Jackson when turner lost control of the vehicle, finally coming to a stop on her porch.

“It was blocking the door, the way they hit it,” Potter says. “We couldn't get out our front door.”

The passenger, Gardner Turner, had to be cut out of the vehicle by rescue officials and flown to UK Hospital.

Potter says accidents like these are too common near her home.

“We've had vehicles crash here all the time,” Potter says. “They always hit this pole or they'll go over the ditch across the road. But it's never hit our house so it freaked us out a bit.”

This accident is not the first time concerns have come up about the highway.

Transportation officials say there are things that can be done to help make the road safer.

“Maybe additional signs, guardrails if they conditions warrant that sort of thing,” H.B. Elkins of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says. “That might be able to help the problem.”

Potter says her family is already planning the rebuilding process on their home.

At last check, Gardner turner is listed in serious, but stable condition at UK Hospital.
