Television Evangelist Jerry Falwell is dead.

He was pronounced dead about an hour after being found unconscious in his office. Falwell became the face of the religious right in the 1980's and also founded Liberty University.

Falwell often mixed preaching with politics and drew criticism for some of his comments over the years. In 2000, WYMT's Steve Hensley interviewed Falwell at a conference in London.

"I suspect I will have a few more years if the Lord's good to me and I'd like to keep preaching the gospel of Christ," Falwell said.

"We regret his passing. He's been a prominent figure in American religion and politics for the last 20 years and I know he'll be greatly missed," said Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell.

We'll have more on Falwell's life tonight at 11.

The Reverend Jerry Falwell was 73 years old.
