You may know it as the Texas company that used to have ties to Vice President Dick Cheney...
Now halliburton is putting a new facility in Eastern Kentucky.

With a starting salary averaging 30 to 50 thousand dollars a year, many people want to work for Halliburton.

"It's a good opportunity it advance a career in the future," says Applicant Sean Sheperd.

But for some applicants, it sounds too good to be true.

"Pretty exciting, starting pay is very competitive and insurance and everything," says applicant Craig Preston. "So it sounds pretty good for this part of the country."

Halliburton officials decided to set up in eastern Kentucky last week, but say coming here was a no-brainer.

The Texas based company will work to improve natural gas wells for drillers. They haven't chosen where specifically they will locate, but say it will be somewhere between Pikeville and Paintsville.

"Right now our economy is up and down," says Employment Office Manager Billy Breeding. "This is good for us."
Halliburton managers aren't wasting any time. They plan to start work in August.

"It's gonna be a win-win for everyone I believe."

Halliburton will hold more job fairs next week.

They will be in the Pikeville Employment Office on Monday, July 30th from 1:00-5:00.

They will be back in Prestonsburg on Tuesday, July 31st from 1:00-5:00.

Posted by: Jerry Adams Location: Harlan 150 jobs. If all married that's 300 people. If they have an average of 2 childen, that's 600 lives affected. Money being spent in local businesses. Halliburton is a gas & oil well serviceing company. They do not drill wells. Finally someone who using facts, and not saying ignorant coments about a company who wants to make life better for eastern kentucky. I guess you would be against it if you was on ware-fare and didt have to work.

Let me say this one more time, "HALLIBURTON IS A OIL & GAS WELL SERVICING COMPANY, THEY DO NOT DRILL OIL & GAS WELLS!!!!!"

I think it is a great boost for area. I was born and raised in Eastern Kentucky. I have alot of family that still live in the area and struggle to find good jobs. I think the area loses alot of good workers due to lack of jobs. I would have loved to stayed close to home. But I left to go to college and never returned. Because jobs are so hard to find. Even with a degree. Jobs are few and far. Good for Eastern Kentucky! By the way. I resisted the urge to respond to miss guided and typical small minded comments of the very confused women in Salyersville.

Elaine - why is Bush the anti Christ? I'm sorry he's not as fun as Clinton with his cigars in an inappropriate place, but get over yourself. Be happy that jobs are coming to the area. We need the jobs in this area - I have seen so many people barely make it by. Try to see the sunshine! Even if the "republicans" bring it!!!

THIS IS GOOD FOR EASTERN KENTUCKY, AS ALL OF US KNOW THE CONDITIONS TO PRODUCE GAS WELLS IN EASTERN KY IS MUCH DIFFERENT THAN IN TEXAS. KY WEST VIRGINIA DID THIS FOR YEARS, IF THEY TAKE CARE OF THE LAND OWNERS IN DOING THIS, BY THIS I MEAN MINOR LAND DISTRUCTION, KEEP THE ROADS UP THEY CREATE AS GIVE INCENTIVES TO THE LAND OWNERS THEY DRILL ON AND NOT GRAB THIS RESOURCE AND RUN THEY CAN MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THIS REGION OTHERWISE IT WILL BE JUST LIKE THE OTHER GAS COMPANIES BEFORE THEM THAT LEFT A BAD TASTE IN EVERYONE'S MOUTH WHEN THEY WERER FINISHED ON THEIR LAND.

wow maybe you can get hired and go to iraq or some other country we destroy.

You talk about the gas company making the money, ha! The lands owners has just as much say wether or not they get the gas and oil because they sell it to them. So it's just as much the land owners as the company. And also they have great jobs my husband put in one application with out knowing any one and the company he's with is great they paid for his cdl's and everything and him with know experience

Where will the job fair be held while it is in prestonsburg?

Posted by: Elaine Location: salyersville on Jul 25, 2007 at 02:44 PM
Oh great now here is a way to get more republican votes so we can have another four years of the anti Christ. I am so sick of this gas well crap. They have distroyed more land and water than coal mining EVER did. This also without not pay to the landowners. It is the gas company who is cabbaging the loot of course! Halliburton, go back to Bush country!

I hope it's not a case of them moving in to get the incentives then taking off again, laying off people who left lower-paying jobs for this "great opportunity."

Posted by: Jim Location: London on Jul 25, 2007 at 09:52 AM
WOW, this can become a great asset to the region, good salaries, good benefits, new opportunties for stable employment, let's utilize our natural resource assets and provide more opportunities for our people in the region.

This is a great opportunity for Little Ol' Eastern Kentucky! No matter what County they decide to build it in. I just hope and pray that it's not another one of those big jobs where (You Need To Know Someone To Get A Job!)

Are you money Are belong to Bush!

Posted by: Tom Location: Smith on Jul 24, 2007 at 09:18 PM
It would be good if this company located in Pike County, since there are over 6,000 gas wells here. More wells means more jobs.
