One of Kentucky's biggest hospitals is laying off dozens of employees.

King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland cited the economy, patients delaying healthcare, and others not paying the bill as reasons for the cuts. In a statement released Tuesday the hospital says unreimbursed care and bad debt are at an all-time high, approaching $100million, a 33% increase over last year.

Union officials say 82 employees were escorted off the property Tuesday and another 150 were given the opportunity to go part-time, change shifts or take a pay cut.

The hospital says it's working with employees to help them find other jobs.

King's Daughters is the fourth largest hospital in the state. It employees around 4,000 people.

maybe they should stop billing people so much for nothing all hospitals r like that i took my little girl to marymount hospital in london cause she wouldnt eat and she was only a couple weeks old and they build me over $900 just for us to step font in the emergancy room then they wanted her to go to u uk in lexington after they tried 4 times putting a iv in her. then they charged me $30.00 just for a stupied bear that blows out oxagen that she didnt even need and the woman told me she didnt even need it but they used it for nothing then turned around and charged me for it. thats stupied people cant pay 6 or 7 thousand or more in hospital bills for nothing they dont care they just want there money so they can go out and buy a car that they dont need or another house that they dont need so i dont see why other people should lose there jobs stop makeing everything so high and start giving people whay they really need. i know i couldnt afford all that!

For the those of you who don't live in the Ashland area, let me tell you that the rumor mill is absolutely flying here in Ashland. Nothing substantiated (yet), but lots of rumors. And lots of blame on the upper management. KDMC is a good hospital with a hard working medical staff but the upper management has wanted to turn KDMC into UK Hospital (without the trauma center, non-cardiac traumas are stablized and sent to St. Mary's or Cabell-Huntington in Huntington, WV) in the form of constant building projects and buying out one medical practice after another. That hospital has taken over a good chunk of Ashland and it seems they get whatever they want. The only political fight the current hospital management got in and lost was with Polly Judd. It makes you wonder what is going on over there.

Just ask any Democrat and they will gladly tell you that it is George Bush fault that these people got lay off.
