MOREHEAD, Ky. - The postseason awards have continued to arrive for Morehead State sophomore pitcher Alex Gjevre. This week, Gjevre became the first MSU softball player in the history of the program to be named All-Region as she earned a spot on theNFCA/Louisville Slugger All-South Region Second-Team after also being named as the 2008 OVC Pitcher of the Year.
Gjevre backed up her awards this season with numbers worthy of all-region and all-American consideration. She led the conference and nearly set an OVC single season record with a 0.96 ERA and went 17-6 in the circle. Gjevre also set MSU single season marks for wins and strikeouts (125). Against eventual OVC runner-up Tennessee Tech on March 29, she set a school single
game record with 14 strikeouts.
Gjevre currently ranks 14th in the nation among all Division I players in ERA. She helped MSU complete its most successful season in school history since 1989 with 34 wins and a second-place finish in the OVC regular season.
She joined Tech's Stephanie Fischer (a First-Team honoree and OVC Player of the Year) as Ohio Valley Conference softball student-athletes named All-South Region in 2008.
