RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team recently signed another player to its 2008-09 roster – Mike Lewis.
Lewis spent the 2007-08 season playing at Charis Prep School in Wilson, N.C. The 5-9 guard averaged 17.4 points, 6.1 assists and 2.9 steals per game helping the Crimson Tide go 43-3 overall. The native of Upper Marlboro, Md., tallied more than 1,400 points and 600 assists in his high school career. As a senior prepster at Suitland (Md.) High School, he led the Rams to a 22-4 record while averaging 18.2 points and six assists per game.
“Mike is a fast, explosive point guard,” Eastern Kentucky head coach Jeff Neubauer said. “We are really excited about his ability to attack all kinds of pressure with the dribble and pass. We also expect him to create scoring opportunities for others by consistently driving the ball into the lane.”
The addition of Lewis brings the 2008-09 men’s basketball recruiting class total to five players. EKU has also signed Cordaro Ellis (6-8 forward from Lynchburg, Va.), Dayvon Ellis (6-0 point guard from Elgin, Ill.), Joshua Jones (6-4 guard from Indianapolis, Ind.) and Papa Oppong (6-4 guard from Toronto, Canada).
