About the Komen Lexington Breast Cancer Foundation

Founded in 1996, Susan G. Komen Lexington has invested over two million dollars in Central and Eastern Kentucky--assisting low-income women and men in the battle against breast cancer. Sadly, 18 years later-- the fight has not been won, but significant progress has been made. With our funding we make sure that each person is receiving quality care that they need and deserve. Komen's promise is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. Each person deserves care and to know there is someone that cares about them. Komen raises dollars locally and seventy-five percent of funds are utilized for community mission work, while twenty-five percent goes to global mission work to find the cure through seeking causes, improving treatments and investing in research.

The inspiration to form the foundation came years ago from many women in the Lexington community knowing there was a need for such a service in Kentucky. Today these same ladies still participate to help the foundation be a success by fundraising and helping out with the Race for the Cure, Pink Tie Gala and numerous fundraisers that happen throughout the year. Thanks to many sponsors and community support, the foundation has managed to continue to increase the amount of funding for grants each year to breast health organizations in the 58 counties served. Komen Lexington wants to continue to grow and needs your support to build the grants program. If you are interested in starting a charitable giving campaign to the foundation through donations, wills and planned giving that expand and enhance local health care services please contact Jennifer Bricking, Executive Director at director@komenlexington.org to get involved. To this end, the Komen Lexington Breast Cancer Foundation is dedicated to raising funds in a consistent and organized manner. This need becomes more critical every year as the economics of health care rapidly change.

Komen Lexington receives no tax dollars for support. It is governed by a community board of directors. Komen Lexington’s only income is derived from events and donations.

Support of the 2014 Golf Classic and other community events such as the Pink Tie Gala and Race for the Cure are crucial in continuing Komen Lexington’s mission to provide quality breast health services for Central & Eastern Kentucky.
