People across Kentucky need to be aware of the threat for severe weather as Lexington Mayor Jim Gray is encouraging local businesses to allow their employees to go home early Friday, as severe weather approaches
The majority of the WKYT viewing area is under the high risk for severe weather. Usually moderate and high risk threats are not issued unless the Storm Prediction Center is very confident about an outbreak of severe weather.
"I can't emphasize enough that people need to keep a close eye on the weather, especially in the late afternoon into the early evening," said Chief Meteorologist T.G. Shuck.
Any of the storms could reach severe status with damaging winds and a possible isolated tornado.
