Another Kentucky county bans synthetic marijuana

Another Kentucky community has joined the fight against synthetic drugs.

Officials in Lincoln County passed the final reading of the ban Tuesday morning, making it illegal to sell or use the substance.
The ordinance passed unanimously in the Lincoln County Fiscal Court. It covers multiple types of synthetic marijuana.

"They keep changing the chemical compounds, so this was written in such a way to try to get all of them that we know of at this time," said County Attorney Daryl Day.

This ordinance came about after Day was contacted by a drug counselor from Laurel County. She gave him a copy of the law they had passed.

"It takes longer to get a law passed in Frankfort than it does to get a county ordinance passed. We can get it passed in a month here," Day said.

Police can begin enforcing the ban once it's been published in the local newspaper. That's expected to happen next week.

Rowan, Laurel, Whitley, Pulaski, Letcher, Perry, Barren and McCracken Counties have also passed similar bans. Knott County passed their first reading of an ordinance about a week ago. They're expected to have the final reading soon.
