Fire alarms are a common way to alert people of danger, but this time the fire alarm was an animal with four legs and a tail. A little one year old dog named Tiny Bee took the place of a fire alarm that did not even go off when the fire started earlier this morning.
This is how Tiny Bee saved her family.
"She was scratching a making all sorts of noise and I thought she just wanted to get on the bed so I told her to go back in here so she came in here and went to mom's room," said Rebecca Watson, who lives in the house.
By going from room to room getting their attention
"She was banging her head on the door so I thought my daughter was coming in, but she never did so I waited and waited and she came in and told me the house is on fire," said Carolyn Bates, who is living in the house for the winter.
So they could escape the fire.
"It was so black in here. When I looked in here, that was it. It was horrifying. It was scary to look, to see," said Bates.
Before it was too late.
"If it hadn't been for her, I'd been dead by now. If not by the fire then by the smoke. We could be dead from the smoke because it was that bad in here," Watson explained.
"It destroyed some of the furniture, a chair, a table, a bunch of our movies," Bates said.
But the family says they are just happy to be alive.
"If it hadn't been for her I don't know if we would have made it out this morning. I sure don't. She was like a real hero to me," said Bates.
"I've never had a dog to be as smart as she is. She's really like a little girl. She's not like a dog. To me, she's like one of my children," said Watson.
This four legged friend really proved that a dog can be man's best friend. Four people were in the house when the fire happened. The family says the only thing left for them to do is clean up some of the soot left behind from the fire.
