A remodeling project turned into a historical scavenger hunt for one local church. 20th Street Baptist Church in Corbin found numerous historical items...some dating back to 1935.

What started out as a project to fix floor at the 20th Street Baptist Church somehow turned into an entire remodel of the place. Church trustee, Bill Boggs, says during the process, some historical items were found.

"They were found up in the attic in the church, back out in the main body of the church where people normally wouldn't be and right there would be one of them."

It is an old church bulletin, dating back to 1935, with a picture of what the church looked like, which is almost identical to the way it looks today.

"On the back of it is a lot of the businesses and stuff that donated to the church and also had the bulletins printed so they could carry on church, way before my time," said Boggs.

Old fashioned fans were also found, which used to be a form of advertising.

"They used them to fan with back years ago. They'd open windows, they didn't have air conditioning so they used the fans in the summer time to keep cool."

They found some bibles, along with a washing pan and even a list of local soldiers who went overseas sometime in the 1940s. Boggs says if it wasn't for the random remodel, they probably wouldn't have found these items...artifacts he says make the church extremely unique.

Boggs says they plan on show-casing the historical items once the church is finished for all to see.
