A well-known land developer and owner from Perry County is dead. Police say Roy Campbell was found dead in his home on Friday night along with his significant other, Wanda Campbell.
Kentucky State Police were called to Crawford Lane around 9 p.m. Friday night after the family of Roy and Wanda Campbell called 9-1-1.
"The family members became concerned of their well-being when they were not able to contact them," said Trooper Tony Watts of Kentucky State Police.
Police say the couple suffered from gunshot wounds and they are treating the case as a double homicide. Right now, they do not have any suspects.
"Its really hard. That's a community there where there's more than one house so you're always concerned when something like this happens. What we'll tell you to do is use caution," Watts said.
People knew Roy as a major land developer and owner and are shocked he is gone.
"It's unbelievable. It's such a tragedy for us here in Hazard and Perry County to learn of this," said Haven King, the Perry County Clerk.
Campbell developed the Walmart and Lowe's shopping center in Hazard and also donated land for the hospital and the veterans center.
"Roy was always good for giving land and helping the community and helping people and he's going to be greatly missed," King explained.
Roy Campbell was 81 and Wanda Campbell was 79.
