ANTON, Ky. (AP) - A $7,200 reward is being offered for information involving the unlawful shooting of two whooping cranes in western Kentucky.

A statement from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says the shootings took place near the Pond River.

One crane was found injured in November along the Hopkins-Muhlenberg county line and later had to be euthanized. The remains of its mate were found in December about five miles away. Officials say they think both birds were shot in the same incident.

Less than 500 of the endangered cranes live in the wild in the U.S.

Anyone with information should call 502-582-5989 ext. 29 or 800-252-5378. The reward is offered for information that leads to an arrest or conviction.
