PINEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Construction is underway on a battered women's shelter in Bell County.

One church group from North Carolina is making it possible.

"Just do it for God and help other people out," said Nathan Rowe.

"Because of situations, economic or whatever, there's a great need for it. It's a tremendous ministry to Bell County, and we just love coming to be a part of it," said Keith Lee.

These men live in North Carolina but came to Bell County to help build the shelter. They are working with Lighthouse Ministries in Pineville who will run the shelter once it is open.

"It's a way the church can be a part of integrating itself in the community," said Lee.

Once finished, the shelter will be able to house up to eighteen women.

"They have somewhere to stay, and they're not just left out in the street for no one to care about them," said Rowe.

The men are actually using their vacation time to build this but say it is worth it.

"We believe in going where God is working and being a part, being co-workers with them, that's why we're here," said Lee.

They believe this shelter could even save a life one day.

Lighthouse Ministries workers hope to have the shelter finished and open later this year.
