Negotiations are underway between Coventry Health Care and Appalachian Regional Healthcare.
On Wednesday, A federal judge ordered the two sides to sit down and try to settle their differences.
That meeting has been going on since early Thursday morning.
If an agreement is not reached, it could trigger layoffs and mean thousands would not be able to receive care at ARH facilities.
They are meeting behind closed doors and trying to reach an agreement.
If one is not reached, thousands of Coventry Health Care insurance customers will no longer be able to use ARH, that means driving an hour or more for some people just to get to a primary care doctor. Plus hundreds of jobs at ARH could be lost.
Rick Baker, ARH’s Chief Legal Officer, said that parties worked through lunch and they are making progress but as far as we know no decisions have been reached.
U.S. Senior Judge Karl Forrester has scheduled a hearing for 9:30 Friday morning.
