Discover Downtown Middlesboro won award

MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (WYMT) - Discover Downtown Middlesboro won a national contest to help revitalize the city!

The organization won a Community Matters contest through online voting.

The prize is $500 to help pay for a project to help downtown.

They are using the money for an event called "Build a Better Block."

On October 25th-27th, they will set-up parks and stores in vacant buildings at the corner of Cumberland and 20th Street.

"We want to have welcoming, inviting spaces for people to come out, families to gather, visitors come through and travelers and hikers and bikers. We all want them to feel like they have a place downtown," said Isaac Kremer.

Kremer says they are still looking for volunteers to help with the project.

There is a meeting on October 10th at the Bell County Public Library from 6:00-8:00 p.m. to discuss the event.
