PINEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT)- Long before Jimmy Rose performed at Radio City Music Hall on America's Got Talent, he was walking down the halls of Pineville High School.

While only six acts will continue forward everyone shared their Pineville pride.

Jes’Anne Givens is a social studies teacher at the school. Givens said she taught Rose in both seventh and eighth grade.

She remembered Rose being shy and quiet and in the classroom.

Givens said it is hard to believe he now performs in front of millions.

“I’m really thrilled to see it because you know that’s a really big deal to get on stage and play for all those people," said Givens.
Principal Bill Keyes taught Rose for three years.

He said to the best of his knowledge Rose did not play any musical instruments during that time.

“I had no clue that he could sing or write songs," said Keyes. "Had no clue he could play guitar until all of this started when he came to see me back in March.”
Keyes said students, faculty and the entire community is excited to see their Pineville class of 1998 alumnus.

“I've told people it's not just that he's a singer, not that he's a songwriter, not that he's on America's Got Talent," Keyes said. "It's the way he handles himself."

In a way, he said, that teaches students to have ambitions.

“That's something that as a teacher, as an educator we're always telling students that, but I think Jimmy kind of reminded us how important it is to tell kids that," said Keyes.
Givens said Rose takes pride in where he comes from and that is equally important.

“People kind of feel like he's genuine and you know that he cares about Pineville," Givens said. "You know he's a good representative of our community.”

Both Keyes and Givens said Jimmy Rose is leaving a positive mark on his alma mater.
