MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (WYMT) - Maintenance work is starting this weekend on the Cumberland Gap Tunnel in Middlesboro at the Kentucky-Tennessee state line.
The maintenance will close one side of the tunnel during the work.
Officials say it is necessary to keep traffic out of the sides of the tunnel while crews do the work.
They are starting at 9:00 on Sunday night.
They plan to only work in the overnight hours until the work is finished.
"These closures will facilitate in completing that work efficiently and doing the work at night has less impact on traffic,' said Robert Perkins.
They hope to finish the work by the end of next week.
