MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (WYMT) - A Middlesboro man donated a historical building to an organization. Now plans are underway to renovate it back for use.

"Discover Downtown Middlesboro" acquired the "Elks Home," the former hospital building.

The 27,000 square foot building is dilapidated, but a structural engineer determined what rehab work is needed.

"Discover Downtown Middlesboro" leaders are already brain-storming ideas for what to use the building for when it is renovated.

"We're thrilled to have the title to it and to have the opportunity to perhaps rehabilitate it back to its old grandeur," said Keith Nagle, Discover Downtown Middlesboro President.

"Huge potential really, if we do this right, it's going to secure our future for the downtown for the next 50 years. I have no doubt about it," said Isaac Kremer, Discover Downtown Middlesboro Executive Director.

"Discover Downtown Middlesboro" is applying for grants for the project and planning fundraisers.
