BELL COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Just weeks before Election Day, several Bell County precincts are changing locations.
Colmar, Clear Creek, Brownies Creek, and Calloway fire stations served as Bell County voting precincts, but now the stations are closed and some are scheduled to be sold next week. The Bell County Election Commission has decided to find new places so there will be no problems.
Just weeks before voters go to the polls, Bell County Clerk Becky Blevins is looking for new precincts.
"It's been a rush. I was so desperate today I was driving side roads looking for a place in Calloway," Blevins said.
Calloway is most likely moving to Page School.
Colmar is moving to Graceway Missionary Baptist Church.
Brownies Creek is moving to Brownies Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
Clear Creek is moving to Clear Creek Baptist Bible College.
"Actually thought it would be a good location for a precinct in the area. Clear Creek was glad to help, anything we can do for the community," said Donnie Fox, President of Clear Creek Baptist Bible College.
Blevins says it was tough to find new precincts because they have to have plenty of parking and be handicap accessible. The new polling locations meet the requirements.
Now the Clerk's office is trying to let voters know about the changes before Election Day. They are mailing postcards to the affected voters listing the new polling places.
Voters will go to these new locations no matter what happens with the fire department buildings.
"They're still moving no matter what because we don't know what's going to happen. We've got to make sure we have a place established to put the voting machines and place for the voters to vote," Blevins said.
Blevins says the Arjay precinct is not affected.
Election Day is November 6th.
