PINEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Police are looking for the thieves they say vandalized the Bell County Garage and stole some items inside.

Officials say thieves used rocks to break the windows and get in on Saturday.

"It's sad and it's an unfortunate part of society that there are thieves among us," said Bell County Judge-Executive Albey Brock.

Several tools were stolen, and officials say the thieves loaded supplies into a county truck and tried to steal it, but the truck would not start.

"We were very fortunate the truck would not start," said Bruce Nunn, Bell County Road Superintendent.

County officials are still adding up the damage costs but say the county will have to foot the bill.

"Anytime you break into a facility that's paid for by the taxpayers, it's not a good thing," said Nunn.

County officials say they want whoever is responsible for the break-in to go to jail.

"This is taxpayer's equipment and facilities, if people are brazen enough to break into it or try to destroy it, they should be placed in jail or punished," said Nunn.

Meanwhile, county officials are making security changes at the garage to try to prevent another break-in.

"We're taking some precautions to at least they won't be able to do it that way again," said Brock.

The Sheriff's Department is investigating the theft. Anyone with information can call the Bell County Sheriff's Department, the Judge-Executive's office, or the County Road Garage.
