A former candidate for governor is charged with rape.
Jeffrey Hillebrandt of Manchester faces charges of rape in the third degree.
He was arrested and taken to the Clay County Detention Center last Wednesday, where he is awaiting pretrial.
The charges stem from an investigation by social services.
Hillebrandt ran for governor in 2003 and county jailer in 2002.
He is set to be in court next week and if convicted, faces one to five years in prison.
