MANCHESTER, Ky. (WYMT) - Officials in Clay County are taking extra steps to make sure their schools are safe.
Each county school will soon get a new security system.
A magnetic lock, keypad, and camera will be added to the front doors.
The buzzer system will force visitors to identify themselves and give a reason for being at the school before entering.
Secretaries inside will then unlock the door from their desk.
“We're hoping it just cuts down on anyone thinking about coming in and doing something. That would deter them, knowing that they have to be checked first before they can get in the building,” said Clay County Middle School Principal Steve Burchfield.
Officials say they plan to place the security system in a few schools by next week.
