LESLIE Co., Ky. (WYMT) - The doors of Big Creek Missions will remain open.

Ministry officials reported earlier this summer they would cancel summer camps, but now officials on the Board of Directors say the ministry will continue.

Dan Griffiths is the pastor at Beech Fork United Methodist Church in Leslie County.

He does not have much information, but said he is staying hopeful.

Griffiths said without the help of the missions many people living in Leslie, Perry and Clay County would suffer.

"Probably thousands of people. They do a lot of home repairs," said Griffiths.

Groups are still volunteering, but without the missions assistance vacation bible school is difficult.

"Vacation bible school introduces children to Jesus Christ," said Griffiths. "It gets the children often acquainted with folks in the church."

Now that the issue is resolved Griffiths says organizations can continue their work in the community .

The Board of Directors says they will not be able to accomplish everything they planned this summer.

However, they will work to the best of their ability.
