MANCHESTER, Ky. (WYMT) - A jury finds a Clay County man guilty of second degree manslaughter instead of murder.

Terry Grubb shot and killed Doug Roberts in November of 2010.

After more than eight hours of deliberations, the jury came back with a verdict of 2nd degree manslaughter after more than eight hours of deliberation.

Virginia Grubb is both Terry Grubb's wife and Douglas Roberts sister, but says her husband was only doing what was necessary to protect his family.

"He is going to have to spend time up there. I don't know how long he is going to get, but he was protecting his own home. We was inside our own home," said Virginia Grubb.

Doug Robert's uncle says he is happy that the jury found Grubb guilty of something, but says the penalty will not fit the crime.

"They found him guilty, but he didn't get the murder charge what he oughta got," said Wayne Roberts.

The trial will resume Thursday morning with the penalty phase.
