Posted: Fri 10:49 AM, Sep 09, 2011

A man has been convicted on federal charges for shooting at a mail carrier in Boyle County.

A federal jury deliberated for two and a half hours Thursday before convicting 38-year-old Juan Warner of assault with a dangerous weapon and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.

Warner was arrested in 2009 when police say he fired two shots at a mail truck that passed by his home, and then got into a standoff with police.

Police say the bullets landed 18 inches from the mail carrier.

No one was hurt. Warner's trial lasted two days.

Warner will be sentenced December 8. He faces up to 20 years in prison on the assault conviction, and at least 10 years on the firearm charge.
