Several Eastern Kentucky car dealers got bad news today.

They are part of nearly 800 dealerships across the country Chrysler is eliminating as it files for bankruptcy.

Managers at Epps Motors in Middlesboro and Lee Motors in Pineville say there was not much warning before they got this letter today, informing them they would soon no longer be Chrysler dealers.

The sales manager at Epps Motors in Middlesboro says despite sluggish sales, he did not expect this.

"And this was just a sad thing that happened. It just happened all at once," said Travis Keyes.

Epps Motors and Lee Motors in Pineville both got the news they are among hundreds of dealerships Chrysler is eliminating as it tries to emerge from bankruptcy.

Chrysler officials say there are too many dealerships competing with each other, and that sales are too slow.

Luckily, both dealerships sell other types of cars and both are expected to stay open. It's still unclear how the cuts will affect employees, but right now no job cuts are expected.

Dealerships can appeal Chrysler's decision, which will be effective June 9th.

Two more Chrysler dealerships in eastern Kentucky are on the chopping block.

Brown's Chrysler in Paintsville and Drake Chrysler in Monticello were also on the list sent down earlier Thursday.

The Chrysler dealer in Paintsville recently merged with the Brown's Ford dealership, which will remain open.
