Investigators are still working to determine what led to last week's disturbance at the Northpoint Training Center in Danville. Meantime, things are slowly returning to normal for the 500 inmates that remain there. They've returned to the dormitories and a smoking ban has been lifted. However, inmates are not allowed to possess matches or lighters. Prison guards have to light cigarettes for the inmates.
Last Friday's disturbance and fire damaged or destroyed six buildings at the facility and forced the relocation of 700 inmates. State prison officials are praising Northpoint staff for getting the disturbance under control fairly quickly.
Less than a dozen inmates were injured in the disturbance and as of Monday, all had been released from area hospitals.
Insurance adjusters are still working to determine the financial toll of the disturbance.
