Matt Shepherd awoke to smoke and flames coming from his downstairs kitchen this morning.
“Between the stove and refrigerator there was a small flame. It just escalated from there,” said Shepherd, who owns Wooden Nickel Enterprises, which is based in the downstairs of his Lebanon Rd. home.
Shepherd lives above the business that rents out wedding and special event equipment and services.
“Shuts the business down at this point,” he said.
Danville firefighters were able to prevent the fire from destroying his house, but almost everything that makes up his business is gone.
Many of the table, chairs, and dance floors outside were spared, but without insurance, he says many of his ventures will have to start from scratch.
“Inside the house we kept most of the china, flatwear, glasses, and linens,” he said.
Only a few functions were scheduled for warmer days ahead.
“I hope they don’t forget about me, because what they would want, I still have,” he said.
The cause of fire remains under investigation.
