Fire that destroyed home ruled arson

Witnesses told fire crews the fire blossomed out the windows almost as soon as it started. Crews got the call at 1:40 a.m. Friday and before they could get on scene flames were shooting through the roof.

The fire was so hot it melted plastic on nearby homes and fire trucks had to be parked far away.

The home had no electricity or gas and there was no lighting in the area at the time of the fire. Fire Chief Jimmy Gipson says he's 99 percent sure the fire is arson.

He plans an investigation into the fire, including following up with the owner who actually asked last week if he could burn the home down.

"He said he had all the stuff he wanted out of it, I told him no due to surrounding buildings and EPA regulations. That was the end of that conversation," said Chief Gipson.

If someone is charged with arson for this fire, they will also face charges of Wanton Endangerment for each of the firefighters who responded to the call to put the fire out.
