Counselors and teachers helping students following deadly crash

Students at a central Kentucky elementary school are having to cope with a difficult loss.

Seven-year-old McKenna Padgett died Tuesday afternoon, following a crash on Highway 34 in Boyle County.

She and her brothers, Conner and Chase Padgett, who were injured in the crash, were all students at Woodlawn Elementary School in Boyle County.

On Wednesday, guidance counselors are meeting with first graders at the school, and helping students cope with the crash.

Students are also making cards, writing letters, and drawing pictures for the family. School officials sent a letter home with all students Tuesday, letting parents know about the accident.

The Boyle County superintendent says Woodlawn Elementary, and a parent-teacher organization, will likely be setting up a fund in the family's name.

McKenna, Conner, and Chase, who are triplets, were in a van with their mother, Stephanie Padgett, and their one-month-old baby sister, Madeline Oblisk, when police say Stephanie Padgett lost control, crossed the center line, and crashed into another van head-on.

Conner and Chase are still listed in critical condition at UK Hospital. Stephanie Padgett is listed as stable, and Madeline Oblisk is listed in fair condition.
