A five-year-old girl is fighting for her life after being hit by an SUV.
It happened Sunday night outside the child's apartment complex on Hill-n-Dale Drive in Danville.
The child, Delanie Jones, is listed in critical condition at UK Hospital. We're told she has spinal, pelvic, and head injuries.
"The family is not doing very good. Her parents are doing their best to hold up and stay strong for each other and their daughter," Amber Darnell, a friend of Delanie Jones' family, said.
Around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Danville Police say Delanie was standing next to a parked truck. Her father was across the street talking to a neighbor, when he saw the girl and told her not to step into the road.
However, police say the girl stepped out from behind the parked truck, and into traffic. Immediately, an SUV hit her.
Paramedics treated Delanie at the scene before she was flown to UK Hospital.
Neighbors we talked to say they worry about children who play outside along Hill-n-Dale Drive, because of the traffic in the area.
In this incident, police say the driver of the SUV was not speeding, and will not face any charges.
We're told the driver even went to UK Hospital overnight to be with Delanie Jones' family.
