About the Vigil Organizer
Big Daddy’s Race for Time (www.bigdaddysrace.org) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting lung cancer research and education. Through donations, we are able to serve Central Kentucky in their research efforts of early detection, treatments, and the reoccurrence of lung cancer. We are partnering with Commonwealth Cancer Center (www.commonwealthcancercenter.com) and the Lung Cancer Alliance to raise awareness of this disease.
About Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death both nationally and in Kentucky. In 2011, it will claim more lives than breast, prostate, colon and pancreatic cancers—combined. Nearly 80% of those diagnosed with lung cancer will be never-smokers or former smokers who quit decades ago.
About The National Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil
The National Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil (www.shinealightonlungcancer.org) is a national campaign to be held throughout the month of November 2011 to raise awareness and support for the disease. At least 100 vigils will be taking place in more than thirty states simultaneously, making this the largest awareness event for lung cancer in the country. Shine a Light has gone global. LCA has partnered with the Australian Lung Foundation which will host vigils throughout Australia on November 1, 2011.
About Lung Cancer Alliance
The Lung Cancer Alliance (www.LungCancerAlliance.org) is the only national non-profit organization solely dedicated to patient support and advocacy for people living with lung cancer and those at risk for the disease. Lung Cancer Alliance is committed to reversing the decades of stigma and neglect by empowering patients, elevating awareness and changing health policy.
