The Danville Fire Department issued a ban on open burning Tuesday, due to current and projected weather conditions. Montgomery, Menifee and Powell counties also issued bans on Tuesday. Five counties have already issued bans: Laurel, Madison, Clark, Jessamine, and Whitley.
The National Weather Service issued a Local Severe Weather Alert, stating elevated fire danger beginning Tuesday. The temperatures will continue to rise, resulting in extreme temperatures, extremely dry conditions, low humidity and moderate surface winds that will create an elevated fire danger.
The Danville Fire Department is also stressing fireworks safety during the hot and dry holiday season. It's asking people to use caution when using fireworks and recommending people setting off fireworks keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy in case of fire. After fireworks complete their burning, the fire department is also recommending people douse the spent device with plenty of water from a bucket or hose.
