DANVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - A dangerous situation in the emergency room of a central Kentucky hospital put one man in jail.
Police say a patient came in with multiple knives and even assaulted a security guard.
As we first told you at six on WKYT, Danville police arrested Lynn Adams, 64, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center Wednesday afternoon.
People with loved ones at the hospital tell us that this incident scared them. With his wife in Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, William Hargis was shocked to hear of what went on there today.
"It surprised me really, but you never know anymore the way people are," said William Hargis, whose wife just had hip surgery at that hospital.
Danville police tell us Adams, a patient at this hospital, became disorderly and even pulled out a knife.
That's when officials say Adams made threatening statement towards a physician and assaulted a guard. We are told Adams was armed with multiple knives but never stabbed or cut anyone.
"It gets kind of scary, but you know this type of thing happens all the time, not over here but in other places," said Hargis. "So you never know what's gonna happen!"
Adams was barricaded in a room alone until police arrived. We are told at first he refused to disarm, and officers had to use force to take him into custody.
As for the hospital, officials would not go on camera about the incident since it involved a patient. But they did comment saying their system worked and no other patients were ever in danger.
Hearing no one was hurt was a relief for Hargis, who was heading back over to the hospital to see his wife when we spoke with him.
"I'll ask some of the nurses about it and find out what was going on," said Hargis.
The Danville police chief tells us Adams no longer needed medical attention and was immediately arrested at the hospital.
Adams has been charged with menacing, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. He is booked in the Boyle County Detention Center.
