More than 30 graves at Danville Memorial Gardens are missing the stands that hold flowers, flags, and mini memorials to loved ones.
"Somebody's trying to make a quick buck and go buy either a bunch of pills or some dope," says Boyle County Sheriff Marty Elliott. Sheriff Elliott says the caretaker at the cemetery reported them missing Tuesday morning. The majority of the ones gone were in the back row of the gardens, farthest from traffic. He believes the thief took the bronze vases to sell as scrap metal. Danville Memorial Gardens says each one costs 250 dollars. With 30 to 35 now gone, they'll spend anywhere from $7,500 to almost $9,000 to replace them.
"More than likely it's just someone who doesn't care and they're just out to get a fix," says Sheriff Elliott.
Sheriff Elliott is offering cash to anyone who can tell them where to find these vases. The number for their tip line is (888) 839-9115.
