Three charged with child abuse in Boyle County

JUNCTION CITY, Ky. (WKYT) - The Boyle County sheriff said Vince Peyton and Joyce Wafford had two children in their possession who showed signs of abuse, including bruising and dirty clothes.

"I love kids, I'm good with kids, and kids love me. I've never, ever in this world Mistreated a kid, never," said Vince Peyton. However, Peyton is in jail charged with criminal abuse of a child. The Boyle County Sheriff says he and Joyce Wofford were intoxicated and walked to a grocery store in thirty-degree weather with a six-month-old and two-year-old not dressed for the weather. At the store, workers said the six-month-old had a horrific diaper rash, a rash around her neck, and an overflowing diaper. They said the two year old looked like he hadn't been bathed.

"They hadn't been cared for when I got them. They was already in the shape they was in," said Peyton.

Peyton said he and Wofford weren't drunk and were actually trying to help the children. In fact, he said they were neglected while they were with their mother, his daughter, Chasity Peyton.

"I was told that where my daughter was staying, they was making meth. Them kids didn't need to be there," he said.

She's also charged with criminal abuse, wanton endangerment, and endangering the welfare of a minor. Vince Peyton said he and Joyce should be let go, but his daughter should learn a lesson.

"I think my daughter ought to be charged with some kind of neglect. I hate to say it, but tough love is better than no love. If that's what it takes to make her see and straighten up, then that's what it's going to have to be," he said.

Those children have been released from the hospital and they're recovering with family members.
