Two tornado sirens out of service in Boyle County

DANVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - Storm siren problems continue for Boyle County officials. In December, they all failed to sound during a tornado warning. Now, a different problem has two sirens out of service.

Sirens in Perryville and Junction City need new circuit boards. The sirens are two of the county's 19 sirens that aren't functioning. Emergency Management Agency Director Mike Wilder says the county has a plan while the sirens are being worked on.

In the event of a tornado warning, the Perryville siren would have to be operated manually. In Junction City, the fire department would have to drive their trucks through town to alert the community.

Wilder says his office has been aware of the problems with the sirens for a while.

"Weather just hasn't been permissible to work outside very much lately," said Wilder.

The parts needed for repairs have been ordered. Wilder says they'll be installed as soon as they arrive in the mail. He says it'll likely be this week.

"Our sirens will be ready to be activated if need be," said Wilder.
