Two central Kentucky colleges are vying to host a debate that will have the attention of the nation.
On Tuesday, officials at Eastern Kentucky University announced they plan to put in a bid to host a presidential debate in 2012.
EKU would host the debate in the university's new Center for the Arts.
The facility is still under construction, but is scheduled to open in September.
EKU plans to submit a proposal to the Commission on Presidential Debates.
The Herald-Leader reports Centre College is also interested in hosting a presidential debate in 2012, and will submit a proposal as well.
This fall, the commission will announce how many debates will take place, and the locations of those debates.
Centre College hosted a vice presidential debate in 2000. The college lost its bid to host a presidential debate for the 2008 election.
