Two dogs shot by bow and arrow

Billy Reed is relieved to see his two dogs recovering today after police say someone shot them with a bow and arrow.

It happened yesterday at his home in Danville. He says he came home around 1:30 in the afternoon and noticed the two dogs didn't greet him.

"I noticed they weren't at the gate. Usually they're there making noise or something," he says.

He didn't think much of it until he went to feed them.

"I went to go get their food and came around the corner and all I saw was blood," says Reed.

The two dogs were badly injured from apparent arrow wounds. Three arrows were discovered in the dogs' pen. State Police are investigating and they say it appears whoever shot the dogs was standing right over them as they were inside their pen.

"These dogs were just like fish in a bowl. He was just standing over them shooting them for no apparent reason," says Reed.

Today, Moses the Australian Shepherd and Sadie the Doberman are recovering from surgery at a nearby vet clinic. Reed says Moses seems to be doing OK, but Sadie is still badly shaken.

"He's in good spirits and wanted to come home with me when I saw him today. The Doberman just wanted to lay down like she was still in shock," says Reed.

Kentucky State Police say they have a person of interest in the case, so far they've not identified who that is. Reed says the dogs' medical bills may reach $3,000. A fund has been set up for the public to help with those bills. You can send donations to P.O. Box 289, Danville, KY 40423.
