High water closes Estill County road

ESTILL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Rain this week is creating high water problems in Estill County, closing part of Red Lick Road. The road has been closed since Tuesday, forcing drivers to use alternate routes.

Danny Click has lived on Red Lick since 1999. He says it floods when it rains more than three inches in a day, and he has to take a detour.

"It adds 2-3 minutes to the trip from here to town. Not as bad as it could be," said Click.

The water is coming from a nearby tributary.

"It would probably be over the top of a car, if you were to drive through it," said Josh Tipton, a resident along Red Lick.

There are no homes in the high water area. Residents don't think the water will put any homes on higher ground in danger.

Officials say Red Lick is the only partially closed road because of high water issues.
