MCDOWELL, Ky. (WYMT) - A Floyd County school closed by flooding earlier this week is now back open.
McDowell Elementary flooded Monday afternoon.
Officials say up to eight inches of water was in some of the buildings and left a muddy mess behind.
They say at least 100 people showed up to help clean the school and get it open again.
"I want to make sure that we recognize the Floyd County Maintenance Department and Greg Adams for their effort up here. They worked really hard, and our faculty and staff as well. The devotion that they showed through this is just amazing, and I'm astonished at the effort that they put out," said Principal Rady Martin.
The school had to pass a health inspection yesterday before it could be reopened.
