PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - A Floyd County family is fighting for custody of a 2-year-old and considering legal action against social services.
Bruce Jarrell says his cousin was bitten by a dog in Boyd County a few days ago while with her mother.
She was treated in a hospital and released.
Her injury became infected and when Jarrell tried to get her medical attention in Floyd County, he says social services held up the process for several hours because he is not her legal guardian.
Jarrell says, "Every one of us was telling them that she needed to get to the hospital get antibiotic through an IV and they just weren't even listening, they were more worried about...I don't even know what they were worried about, I know they weren't worried about her though."
Officials with the Cabinet of Health and Family Services can not comment on the issue due to confidentiality.
Jarrell says his cousin is somewhere in foster care and they have a court hearing on Wednesday morning to discuss custody.
