PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT)- The executive director of the Jenny Wiley Theatre in Prestonsburg has resigned.
No reason was given, but board member Miriam Silman released this statement, " Jenny Wiley Theatre regrets the resignation of long time director Marty Childers and assures the community that the Theatre will continue its mission of enhancing the quality of life in eastern Kentucky by providing professional theatre and exceptional educational opportunities in the performing arts. Jenny Wiley Theatre has been a vital part of the region for 49 years, and it will continue for many years to come. Our plans to expand to provide year round theatre using both the new space in Pikeville and the Amphitheatre at Jenny Wiley State Park remain firm and we are excited at being able to expand our performance and educational offerings. Most immediately, we look forward to the upcoming productions of The Legend of Jenny Wiley at the Mountain Arts Center from October 11 – October 18, and Miracle on 34Th Street at Booth Auditorium in Pikeville, November 29 – December 7, both with school matinees and evening performances for the public. This is a one-time opportunity for schools to see The Legend of Jenny Wiley and should not be missed. Footlights Theatre programs will also continue with workshops and youth productions throughout the year. The Board of Trustees will solicit applications for a new Executive Director and look forward to filling that position shortly. Jenny Wiley Theatre has benefitted from the leadership of a strong and involved Board, talented actors, musicians and technicians, a capable and dedicated administrative staff, and a supportive audience and community: all those will continue and guide us through this transition. ."
Silman says plans continue to provide year round theatre using a new space in Pikeville along with the outdoor amphitheatre in Prestonsburg. They hope to have a new executive director soon.
