PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - A grand jury will hear the case of a Prestonsburg man who allegedly carried a gun outside a nursing home.
In early February, police say Philip Baldridge was going through construction tools outside the Riverview Nursing Home.
The foreman told him to leave.
Baldridge left but came back with a rifle.
Police say he never directly threatened anyone, but they say he was acting recklessly with the weapon.
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - He was not even supposed to have a gun and now a convicted felon sits behind bars.
Police say Philip Baldridge brought a rifle outside a Prestonsburg nursing home once he was told to leave a nearby construction site.
No one was injured, however officials say it was a very strange situation.
Police say when they got the call that someone with a gun was outside Riverview Nursing Home in Prestonsburg they were not sure what to expect.
"Subject had a weapon in his hands that they described as possibly a AK-47," said Det. Adam Dixon with Prestonsburg Police
Riverview's Administrator Missy Allen says what prompted the call was also strange.
"We have some construction crews working. It appeared that he might have been going through some of the materials, and he was asked not to do that," she said.
She says the man, Philip Baldridge, then left and came back with a rifle. That is when employees called the police.
"We began further investigating the matter and come to find out the gentlemen was actually a convicted felon," said Det. Dixon.
They say he never took the gun inside but actually left it outside and went in claiming he was there to visit someone.
"We couldn't understand what his, if any, motive he had," said Allen.
Even though they do not believe anyone was necessarily in danger, police say Baldridge was still acting recklessly with his gun, and they say that is still cause for alarm.
"He had the weapon especially out in the open which causes alarm to a lot of people especially when you're in a residential type neighborhood," said Det. Dixon.
Police say the gun was an SKS rifle and was not loaded when they found it.
Baldridge is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
