PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - A small Eastern Kentucky school that has struggled to keep their doors open held a fundraising event Monday night in Prestonsburg.
Folks gathered at the Stonecrest clubhouse in support of The David School whose mission is to provide an education for Appalachian high school dropouts and at-risk youth.
Guest speakers at Monday's event included former Governor Paul Patton who says he believes in what the david school stands for.
"The David School is a great effort to take those kids that need special attention and give them an education. We have to make sure that everyone gets at least a high school education," said Patton.
There were also college students from across the nation at the event who are serving in the area for their spring break.
