An investigation is underway after police say they found a man shot in the abdomen.
The shooting happened around 2 Friday morning at a home on Douglas Avenue in Frankfort.
Frankfort Police say when they arrived, they found a 39-year-old man with one gunshot wound.
He was airlifted to UK Hospital for treatment. There's no word on his condition.
Police say two adults and a 10-year-old girl were inside the home at the time of the shooting.
We've learned the man who was shot does not live at the home.
Neighbors say the people all involved in this incident knew each other.
Police haven't released many details about this investigation so far. So far, they have not made any arrests.
Those who live here on Douglas Avenue say it's a quiet neighborhood, but this morning's shooting was a startling wake up call for some.
Lisa Phillips says her best friend lives at the home with her 10-year old daughter, and the man who was shot, doesn't live at the home but has a history of violence with the family.
"She's scared to death of him," says Phillips. "Someone should have done something before it escalated this far."
Police are releasing few details of the investigation. While some neighbors say the shooting may have been a result of self defense, police will only say they're looking into it.
"We're confident the information will be forthcoming," says Major Fred Deaton, with the Frankfort Police Department.
In the meantime, a neighborhood anxiously awaits answers about gunshots that rang too close to home.
"That scares me," says Jackie Johnson, who lives nearby. "It's been a month and 3 weeks ago, and I'm ready to leave. I've got a son in high school, and that makes me real nervous."
Theories have been circulating about what happened, but police say this is still an ongoing investigation.
