Violence broke out Monday morning at a university dorm, and police say someone attacked a student with a knife.

Police at Kentucky State University in Frankfort say the incident at Chandler Hall was the result of an ongoing dispute between two women.

Authorities were called to the dorm around 10 a.m.

Police say a student who lives at the dorm was stabbed in the hand.

Campus police, along with Frankfort Police, responded, and quickly arrested a suspect, 20 year-old Ashley Porter.

Porter has been charged with second degree assault and second degree burglary.

The injured student was treated at the scene, and did not need to be transported to a hospital.

We're told Porter is also a student at Kentucky State University. She was taken to the Franklin County jail.

Police say this morning's attack likely escalated from an argument the two women had over the weekend.

University officials released this statement about campus safety:

Kentucky State University is committed to providing a safe, secure and hospitable environment for our campus community, including students, faculty, staff and campus visitors. The university makes every effort to keep the campus safe through crime prevention, use of security technology and education programs.
