For the eighth year in a row, the Kentucky National Guard has surpassed its recruiting goals.
A ceremony, honoring recruiters, was held on the steps of the state capitol in Frankfort Tuesday morning to recognize the accomplishment.
In 2003, the Kentucky National Guard had fewer than 6,000 members. Today, the Guard has more than 7,500.
Two Guard recruiters have received national awards, recognizing their work.
Officials with the Kentucky National Guard said the Department of Defense may soon look for cuts in spending, but they hope the work the Guard does outside of combat will spare them.
In recent years, the Kentucky National Guard has been deployed to help victims of tornadoes and the 2009 ice storm.
